Spring Program 2004

Spring 2004 Series

"Science and Spirit: Our Place in the Cosmos"
We examined our earthly surroundings during the Institute’s fall lecture series entitled “The Importance of Place.” For our spring series, we turn our attention to space to explore our place in the cosmos. We will examine the relationship of humanity to the cosmos, and contemplate our fascination with space and the search for other life in the universe.

Three renowned scientists—two astronomers and an astronaut, will present programs during the series entitled “Science and Spirit—Our Place in the Cosmos.” We will look at the nature of the universe, its origins, and our place in it; we will hear about the search for extraterrestrial life, and ponder the consequences for mankind should that life be found; and we will learn about the importance of space to humanity from both a technological and an esthetic perspective.

In addition, there will be stargazing with the Central Texas Astronomical Society and a visit to the Mayborn Planetarium for a special photographic tour of space. We hope you will join us for these exciting programs as we explore our place in the cosmos.
